Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress

Traumatic experiences can affect both body and mind and disrupt a sense of safety; their impact can be approached carefully within a secure therapeutic frame.

Traumatic experiences can have a profound effect on a person's sense of safety, relationships and bodily experience. Their impact may remain present long after the event itself, sometimes in ways that are difficult to name. When Can It Become Difficult? Triggers may bring intense anxiety, panic, numbness, disturbed sleep, nightmares or a persistent state of alert. Guilt, shame and withdrawal from relationships can also accompany these experiences. Assessment should be individual and carried out by a qualified mental health professional. The Psychotherapy Process Psychotherapy can provide a gradual, carefully paced space for working with traumatic experience while respecting the person's boundaries. The work focuses on understanding present effects, strengthening internal resources and rebuilding a sense of safety without promising a particular outcome.
